El Pizzería La Nonna Balopal renueva a su entrenador, Fernando Hernández
Fernando Hernández seguirá entrenando al Pizzería La Nonna Balopal en la próxima temporada. El entrenador y el club han llegado a un acuerdo para que el vallisoletano dirija al equipo palentino también en la campaña 2020-21, a la espera de saber aún qué sucede finalmente con la temporada actual tras la propuesta de la Federación de que se dé por terminada.
El Balopal fue de menos a más en cuanto a resultados en la primera temporada de Hernández. Después de pasar la primera vuelta tratando de alejarse de los puestos de descenso, en la segunda vuelta comenzó a poner tierra de por medio con las plazas peligrosas, estando en un cómodo 10º lugar y 7 puntos por encima del descenso en el momento en el que se paralizó la competición. Fue precisamente en esas últimas semanas en las que se vio la mejor versión del equipo.
Desde el club se está tratando de dar toda la estabilidad posible dentro de la complicada situación que se vive, y también se trabaja ya en las primeras renovaciones de jugadores de cara a la próxima temporada. La idea es mantener el proyecto en Primera Nacional siempre que la situación económica del club lo permita y mientras no se ponga en riesgo la continuidad de los equipos de la cantera.
Hernández terminó su carrera como uno de los mejores extremos nacionales de la historia hace tan solo un año, habiendo jugado hasta los 45 años y finalizando esa etapa con el Atlético Valladolid de ASOBAL. Su carrera profesional empezó precisamente en Valladolid, pero en el Arcos Valladolid, también de la máxima categoría, en la temporada 1992-93. Unos años después pasó al Ademar de León, y al poco tiempo llegó al FC Barcelona, donde vivió sus mejores años como profesional y acumuló la mayor parte de su palmarés. En 2007 fichó por el mítico Portland San Antonio en algunas de las que fueron las últimas temporadas del club, y los últimos años de su carrera los vivió entre el Club Balonmano Badajoz, el Cuatro Rayas Valladolid y el Balonmano Atlético Valladolid.
Pero no debemos olvidar que Fernando Hernández ha sido un referente a nivel nacional, y muestra de ello son sus 120 partidos con la selección española. Con la roja Hernández consiguió su primera medalla con el bronce en los Juegos Olímpicos de Atlanta en 1996, y culminó con el gran logro de la medalla de oro en el Campeonato del Mundo de Túnez de 2005. A nivel de clubs cuenta con dos ligas ASOBAL, una Liga de Campeones, una Copa EHF, una Recopa de Europa, dos copas del Rey o tres copas ASOBAL, entre otros trofeos.
Hace cinco años que Fernando Hernández se sacó el título de entrenador nacional de balonmano. Antes de hacerse cargo del Pizzería La Nonna dirigió a la selección de Castilla y León juvenil femenina, y al equipo de balonmano del Centro Penitenciario de Villanubla, que juega en la liga provincial vallisoletana ligado al Atlético Valladolid.
